What is a dental biocompatibility test?

A biocompatibility test evaluates how your serum (the clear portion of your blood) reacts to the components of common dental materials. The lab compares your sample against the ingredients found in more than 11,000 products used in dentistry—things like composites, cements, bonding agents, crowns (high noble, low noble), ceramics, denture materials, temporary materials, and more.

Your report organizes materials into 21 categories and classifies your personal reactivity to each product as:

  • Highly Reactive

  • Moderately Reactive

  • Least Reactive

There is no “non-reactive” category—because the immune system may respond (even subtly) to anything it recognizes as “non-self.” Our goal is to favor the least reactive choices for you.
