Frequently Asked Questions

At Natural and Cosmetic Dentistry in Clearwater, FL, we know patients often have extra questions—especially when they’re looking for a more holistic, natural approach to dental care. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions we hear in our office.

If you don’t see your question here, you can always call us at (727) 888-6523 and our team will be happy to help.

What makes your practice “natural” and “holistic”?

At Natural and Cosmetic Dentistry, we practice biologic (holistic) dentistry, which means we look at how your oral health affects your entire body—not just your teeth and gums. We focus on:

  • Gentle, minimally invasive treatment
  • Biocompatible, metal-free materials whenever possible
  • Reducing toxicity, including mercury and unnecessary chemicals
  • Supporting your body with options like ozone therapy, IV services, and nutritional guidance

Our goal is to help you feel better and healthier overall, not just give you a nice smile.

Do you remove mercury fillings safely?

Yes. We specialize in the safe removal of silver (mercury) amalgam fillings using strict biological dentistry protocols designed to minimize your exposure to mercury vapor and particles.

This typically includes:

  • Careful isolation of the tooth
  • High-volume suction
  • Extra oxygen/air support
  • Thorough cleanup and replacement with biocompatible, tooth-colored materials

If you’re considering having old silver fillings removed, we’ll start with an exam and consultation to decide whether removal makes sense for your health and create a step-by-step plan.

Are you a mercury-free and metal-free practice?

Yes. We are a mercury-free practice (we do not place new amalgam fillings) and we offer metal-free options for many restorations, including tooth-colored composite fillings, porcelain or zirconia crowns and bridges, and metal-free implant restorations when appropriate.

We’ll review your options at your exam so you can choose what works best for your body and your smile.

Do you use fluoride-free options?

Yes. We are proud to continue a fluoride-free, biologic approach inspired by the legacy of Dr. Raymond Behm.

For patients who prefer fluoride-free care, we offer:

  • Fluoride-free cleanings and home-care recommendations
  • Mineral-supporting and botanical-based products
  • Education on pH, nutrition, and daily habits that naturally support strong enamel

If you have questions about fluoride or want to avoid it completely, let our team know and we’ll tailor your care.

Do you offer virtual dental consultations?

Yes. We offer virtual dental consultations for patients who want to discuss their concerns, ask questions, or explore treatment options before coming into the office.

A virtual consultation can be helpful if you:

  • Live out of town or travel for care
  • Have complex health or dental concerns
  • Want a second opinion about treatment
  • Prefer to talk through options from the comfort of home

To request a virtual consultation, you can call our office at (727) 888-6523 and ask to schedule a virtual appointment.

What services do you offer?

We provide a wide range of holistic and cosmetic services, including:

  • Holistic Dentistry: safe mercury removal, ozone therapy, holistic dental cleanings, PRF for extractions, neuromuscular dentistry
  • Metal-Free Dentistry: tooth-colored fillings, crowns and bridges, veneers, dentures, implant restorations
  • Cosmetic Dentistry: smile makeovers, Invisalign, whitening, facial aesthetics
  • Sleep & Airway: sleep apnea treatments, airway-focused orthodontic approaches, myofunctional therapy, laser treatments such as NightLase
  • Wellness & Support: IV vitamin therapy, biocompatibility testing, nutritional guidance

At your first visit, we’ll review which options fit your goals and overall health.

Do you treat children and families?

Yes. We are a family-friendly holistic practice, and we see both children and adults. Our team focuses on gentle techniques, patient education, and preventive care to help kids grow up comfortable at the dentist and help families share healthy habits at home.

If your child is anxious or has had a difficult dental experience in the past, let us know—we’ll take extra time to move at their pace.

Can you help with sleep apnea, snoring, or airway issues?

Yes. We offer several sleep and airway services that go beyond traditional dentistry, including:

  • Oral appliance therapy and airway-focused orthodontic approaches
  • Myofunctional therapy and tongue posture guidance
  • Laser treatments (such as NightLase) to help reduce snoring and support better breathing
  • A whole-body approach that looks at tongue posture, jaw position, and airway development

If you snore, feel unrefreshed in the morning, or have been told you may have sleep apnea, we can coordinate care and discuss options to support better breathing and sleep.

Do you offer IV therapy or vitamin infusions?

Yes. We provide IV therapy services in the office, including vitamin and antioxidant infusions, as part of our whole-body wellness support.

IV therapy may be used to:

  • Support healing after certain procedures
  • Boost energy and immune function
  • Provide targeted nutritional support

Your dentist or provider will review whether IV therapy makes sense for your health history and goals.

What are “biocompatible” materials, and do you test for them?

Biocompatible materials are those that are chosen to be as gentle and compatible with your body as possible. In holistic dentistry, we look at how dental materials may affect the immune system and overall health—not just whether they “work” in a tooth.

Our office offers:

  • Biocompatibility testing when needed
  • Metal-free, BPA-free options for many restorations
  • Personalized recommendations if you have chemical sensitivities, autoimmune concerns, or a complex health history

If you already have a list of materials to avoid, bring it with you—we’ll review it together.

Do you accept dental insurance?

We are not an insurance-driven practice, but we are insurance-friendly and happy to help you use any benefits you may have.

Our team can:

  • Provide detailed receipts and documentation
  • Help you file out-of-network claims
  • Work with you to estimate your reimbursement as best as possible

Because we focus on holistic, metal-free, and advanced services, some of what we do may not be fully covered by insurance. We’ll review fees and expected benefits before treatment so you can make informed decisions.

What payment and financing options are available?

We offer several ways to make care more affordable, including third-party financing options that allow qualified patients to pay over time with convenient monthly payments.

We’ll review your options at your visit so you can choose a plan that fits your budget.

I’m anxious about dental work. How do you keep patients comfortable?

Patient comfort is one of our top priorities. Our philosophy is gentle, conservative, and minimally invasive care. To help reduce anxiety, we focus on:

  • Taking time to listen and explain each step
  • Using numbing and gentle techniques to minimize discomfort
  • Offering holistic support such as ozone, PRF, and IV options when appropriate
  • Creating a calm, friendly environment where you can ask questions freely

If you’re nervous about your visit, please tell us when you schedule—we’ll plan extra time and talk through ways to help you feel more at ease.
